Finding New Wines

Tasting wine is fun. Tasting wine never gets boring. Like watching a Joe Root cover drive, the boy makes it look so darned easy. Tasting wine, however, is not always easy. There are many mitigating factors. The opinions of others about you, temperature, humidity, altitude, time of day, the state of the moon, what you had for breakfast, they all play a part. Here I am, for example, at ten o'clock on a miserably dank morning in Sussex, sitting on a crate of beer in the corner of a cold, dark room with the flavours of coffee and Marmite toast lurking about my palate like a gaggle of hoodies outside a Burger King on a Friday night. Tasting and selecting wine on behalf of other people is even harder. Remember, all this slurping and spitting is undertaken on the behalf of the customer after all. You are very welcome.

Here are a couple of highlights from our recent, gallant efforts.

Domaine de Medeilhan Cuvee Tradition Blanc 2015 Pays D'Oc Chardonnay and Viognier. A nice toasty edge to what is a super value, citrus and peach infused mouthful of wine. April 2015 £7.95

Rocca Maura, Cotes du Rhone Bio 2015 Rhone, France Wow. This sumptouos blend of Grenache and Cinsault is bursting with energy and Joie de Vivre. It is alleged that this has lost some of its pizzazz since being transferred to bottle. If that is the case then shepherd me to a tank of the stuff so I can strip naked and fling my naked body into it's juicy depths. April 2016 £9.95 (Rocca Maura, it should be noted performed outstandingly across the board. Keep an eye out for all their wines.)

It may only be April and about eight degrees in the sun, but what the heck I'm going to recommend a couple of Roses nonetheless

Domaine Saint Jean D'Aumieres Les Perles Rose 2015 Pays D'Oc is a blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah. It is very, very pale pink. A light, floral wine with delicate fruit. Clean and very refreshing.

For those who prefer a bit more oomph-la in their Rose try the Domaine de Medeilhan Cuvee Tradition Rose 2015 Pays D'Oc 80% Syrah, 20% Grenache. The hefty dose of Syrah in this wine lends aromas of white pepper and violets. Zesty with an enjoyable, spicy edge. April 2015 £7.95

These wines will be available soon.
